Vintage Victorian Cake

I have been struggling to find a really good red velvet cake. So I found this recipe this morning. It is so easy and the results are fantastic.http://www.bakerella.com/red-velvet-cake/

Red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting

Anyway, I had some left over grey fondant and some spare sugar flowers left over from other cakes I have been working on. It was great to make up my own design.

Wedding Cake Course

For those of you who don't know I have been attending a Wedding Cake Course since the beginning of February. It is run by Kate DeWaal of http://www.sugar-n-ice.co.za/ and Khali Collins of http://www.saschoolofweddings.co.za/index.html

I have had a great time and learned so much, but most of all the course has given me the confidence to get out there and offer my services to Brides. Everything has been covered from basic recipes to piping royal icing and assembling cakes.

Here are a few photos of what I have learned so far

Chocolate collar - spiral

Chocolate collar - polka dot

We learned to cover a cake with fondant, pipe royal icing and make sugar flowers
Little trumpet flowers

Daisies and blossoms ideal for cupcakes

I used what I had learned and made a dummy cake at home.

Christening Cake

Good Morning Cake Lovers. As you can see I have not updated my blog in weeks. I have been quite busy with the kids, who were on Easter break. This morning I sighed with relief as I waved them off for the day.

Now it is time to fill you in. I had a huge cake order over Easter weekend. It was a beautiful elegant christening cake and 90 matching cupcakes. The cake was too big to transport assembled so I had to take it in pieces and assemble it at the venue. My nerves were shot! My husband took photos while I was working.
